Keep In Touch To Keep Business Flowing

A number of people have been asking me what kind of marketing they could be doing in these tough economic times.

I ask them what is their greatest marketing asset? Most aren’t aware that it is the people who have already bought from them. Why? Because they are most likely to buy from you again or refer you to others than any other segment of your target market.

Even if yours is not a business of frequent repeat sales, keeping in touch with past customers will have long term benefits.

It is much more expensive to find new customers than to keep the ones you already have. Nurturing the relationships you already have is crucial to growing a successful business. And finding a way to keep in touch with those contacts on a regular basis is integral for keeping yourself and your business on their minds.

Direct mail is a simple, inexpensive way to stay in touch with past clients. Here are a few ideas:

1. Send them a monthly or quarterly postcard with a special offer;

2.Create a simple 1-page newsletter with useful information about your business’ area of expertise;

3. Send a thank you note after completing a sale or project or for a referral. This simple good will gesture goes a long way in raising your business profile in the minds of your customers.

Whatever method you use for keeping in touch, keep in mind that your main idea is just to remind people that you’re still around and that you have value to offer. These simple tactics will pay off over time as you stay “top of mind” with your best prospects.
